Is Anyone Too Young For Cosmetic Dentistry?

Contrary to popular belief, there is no ideal age for cosmetic dentistry. In fact, individuals of all ages, ranging from children to adults or even seniors, often need cosmetic dentistry. The difference is in the form of cosmetic dentistry you need depending on your age.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry is a general term used to describe any dental work that is performed to improve the appearance of gums and teeth. It primarily focuses on overall smile appearance, and improvement in dental aesthetics in shape, size, position, and color.

Age Range

The majority of cosmetic dentistry patients are between 30 and 65 years old. However, patients who are between 65 to 75 years old can be treated as well. Older patients have the advantage of having reduced side effects due to the high likelihood that the pulp chamber has shrunk, which reduces the risk of root filling and sensitivity complications significantly.

Age Limit

Although there is no age limit to who can do cosmetic dentistry, however, people who are under 18 years old are not advised to go for cosmetic dentistry. An exception can be made if there are structural concerns that needs to be addressed immediately.

Children Cosmetic Dentistry

Serious cosmetic dentistry procedures are not necessary for children with baby teeth. There are various treatment options available for teenagers who wants to have that perfect smile. The most commonly procedure among children is the use of a tooth colored filling to help restore the appearance and health of a child’s teeth.

Adult Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry for adults is designed to help restore a damaged cosmetic appearance. The most common types of adult cosmetic dentistry are teeth whitening, dental veneers, gum contouring, and dental bonding.

For adults who feel that their teeth need some adjustment in terms of length, gum contouring may be beneficial. Gum contouring is the altering of the gum line to reach a more desired level. Dental bonding is used to fill chipped or cracked teeth, lengthen teeth, and restore the smoothness and thickness of teeth to give off a more symmetrical smile. Dental Veneers are custom-made shells that are thin and are excellent for restoring the color of stained teeth to achieve a more natural look.

Senior Cosmetic Dentistry

As we age, there is an increased chance of tooth loss, which results in the need for seniors to go for dentistry procedures such as dental implants, dentures, or bridges. As for seniors who maintained a good oral health and still have all of their teeth in place, simple cosmetic dentistry such as teeth whitening, veneers, and bonding are enough to maintain an awesome smile.
