It’s obvious that bad breath is a problem for numerous Americans. All you have to do is look at the breath freshening products on the market today. There are, however, many causes for bad breath. Some people, no matter how many times they brush their teeth, always seem to suffer from halitosis (bad breath). What could the problem be? Is there a product on the market to get rid of bad breath in anyone and everyone – or is there some other way that would provide better results?
Let’s take a look at the most popular ways to treat bad breath.
Bad Breath – How to Prevent It
Bad breath may be banished through easy, quick methods. If your bad breath is due to something you ate, remember, before it has completely worked through your system, the odor may linger. It can actually take up to three days!
- Keep track of what are you eating: Show your dentist the “log” you’ve kept of what you’re eating, especially if you think something you’re eating is causing your bad breath. Include medications.
- Eat less meat but more vegetables and fruits: Celery, carrots, apples, and other hard vegetables and fruits help clear food particles and plaque from your mouth.
- Make sure you include lots of water in your daily intake: Keep your mouth moist by drinking enough water every day. You can also stimulate saliva production by sucking on sugarless candy or chewing sugarless gum.
- Tobacco – cut it out: It’s time to kick the habit if you use chewing tobacco or smoke cigars or cigarettes.
- Visit your dentist: At least twice a year, you should have a professional cleaning and oral exam done by your dentist.
- Oral hygiene is key: After you eat, brush your teeth. At least twice a day, to remove plaque and food debris, use a fluoride toothpaste with which to brush. Use a tongue scraper or brush your tongue with your toothbrush. After an illness, and every 2 to 3 months, replace your toothbrush. Use floss. Twice a day, use an antibacterial mouthwash to rinse your mouth out. Clean retainers and braces as your dentist has instructed. Remove and thoroughly clean your dentures every night.
